Standardized test scores are one of many ways to measure student achievement and progress. Many parents and prospective parents appreciate the opportunity to see how students in our school are achieving. Results are used by schools to assist with improvement planning and to provide information to the community.
The benefits of our rigorous curriculum, small group instruction, and personalized learning program, however, go well beyond our students' high test scores. We work to develop problem solvers and creative thinkers. A St. Patrick education is an investment in your child's future.
The ISASP Test
Across the state, the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) replaced the former Iowa Assessments, with students taking the new tests for the first time in spring 2019. Iowa Testing Programs at the University of Iowa oversaw the test’s development and administration. ISASP better reflects what’s being taught in Iowa classrooms and how students are progressing toward grade-level expectations outlined in Iowa’s academic standards.
We are proud of our students' scores and are happy to share them with you. In all grades and subjects reported, the percentage of St. Patrick students that are either proficient or advanced proficient (represented by the two blue bars) exceeds the state average— by very significant amounts! National Percentile Ranks (NPRA) are not available as ISASP is a customized assessment for the state of Iowa. Note that the ISASP measures English Language Arts standards in reading, writing and language as opposed to only reading on the Iowa Assessments. Essays and constructed-response questions are now used in addition to multiple-choice questions.
